We don't just do heated clothing! Welcome to our Cooling Vest Guide for 2024.
Who are cooling vests for?
At The Warming Store, we have cooling vests available for a range of activities and uses.
- Construction workers, gardeners and anyone else who works outside during the summer
- Military personnel
- People suffering from medical conditions with heat sensitivity
- Motorcyclists
- Sportsmen and sportswomen
- Emergency Services
- Anyone who wants to enjoy the summer without being overwhelmed by heat
How do they work?
We have 3 styles of cooling vests that work in different ways to help you keep your cool.
Evaporative Cooling Vests
These use the natural process of evaporation to cool you down. When evaporative vests are placed in water, non-toxic cooling crystals or specialized cooling fabric absorbs hundreds of times their weight in water. This stored water is then slowly released by the process of evaporation. In hot conditions, as the water starts to evaporate, the heat from the wearer is transferred into the air helping to reduce your temperature.
- Lightweight.
- Easy to use throughout the day. If the vest dries out, just submerge back in water for hours more cooling.
- No electricity is required, making an evaporative vest perfect for people on the move.
- The most affordable form of cooling vest.
- Not as effective in high humidity.

Phase Changing Vests
These non-toxic vests have a large pocket in the front and back into which refrigerated or frozen water or an air-conditioned cooled packs are inserted. This flexible pack then helps reduce the wearers’ temperature for up to 4 hours. These inserts can be refrozen when necessary. Each vest includes one set of packs. For all-day cooling, we suggest ordering extra packs that can be kept in a freezer or cooler until it is necessary to exchange them into the vest.
- Hard wearing.
- Works in high humidity.
- Each cool pack can be reused.
- Does not produce condensation.
- Typically provides a cooler temperature than evaporative cooling vests.

Circulatory (Pumped Water) Cooling Vests
The circulatory vests are the most advanced and the coolest (temperature-wise) of the cooling vests. Based on technology developed by NASA, these vests and one shirt work by circulating cool water through non-kink tubing around the wearer’s body. As this water moves through the system it removes heat from your body which cools you down. This water then flows back through the system unit to a reserve of ice-cold water. The circulating water then automatically cools before being re-circulated around the vest.
- Come in different power options including 12V battery and standard outlet.
- Provide a cooler temperature than both evaporative and phase changing cooling vests.
- Works in high humidity.
- Available as shirts and vests.
- Can be used as rehabilitation stations for construction workers or emergency services.

Hybrids/Specialty Phase Change Vests
The hybrid/specialty cooling vests will either feature both evaporative and phase change cooling technology, or they are specially designed to provide you with cooling comfort and maximize athletic performance and/or stimulate weight loss. These vests feature a set of non-toxic, freezable inserts. The vests are also made of evaporative materials that can be used when you are unable to refreeze the cooling packs. The hybrid/phase change vest uses the same non-toxic, absorbent cooling crystals or absorbent cooling fabrics featured in the evaporative cooling vest.
- Typically provides a cooler temperature than evaporative cooling vests.
- Hard-wearing.
- Each cool pack can be reused.
- Easy to use throughout the day. If it dries out all you have to do is submerge back into water for hours more cooling.
